Castro vs. Storey

QUASI POP presents:
Various Artists "Escaping From Color"
(Rapoon re-composed & re-mixed) CD Digisleeve (QPOP CD045)

The conception, the idea, and also both realisation and sound sources of this CD are all based on original sound material (loops and sounds) from Rapoon's "Tribal Sci Fi" CD-ROM (released by Sony/Sonic Foundry a few years ago). Not the entire original Rapoon’s tracks have been re-mixed or re-composed, but the general «sound» (or the sound aesthetic of Rapoon’s music) was recreated instead. All the artists have provided their own original compositions, which more or less are based on the audio-sources from Rapoon. This compilation features stunning works in electroacoustic/drone/dark ambient/industrial/noise domain from the following artists:

Francisco Lopez "Untitled #193"
TV Pow "Ladder Friends Remix"
Machinefabriek "Drijfzand"
Troum "Farawer"
Steve Roden ”Colorscape Forming”
Jorge Castro ”Depths”
Paulo Raposo "Tidal Winds"
Aidan Baker "Percussive Drone"
Anla Courtis ”Rapooned Rapunga”
Gert-Jan Prins ”Raponsje”
Heimir Bjorgulfsson "Obmam Ognom"
Mike Shiflet ”Version Belize”
Family Underground ”Tube”
Ronnie Sundin ”Distant Demons”
Cisfinitum & Rapoon ”Live in Ikra, Moscow 2006”

FAS'08 cocinandose...

FAS 08 - feria de arte sonoro
First Puerto Rican Sound Art Fair

From August 15 till 17, 2008 we invite you to celebrate with us the first Sound Art Fair at "La Respuesta", 1600 Ave. Fernandez Juncos, Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Selected sound artists - contemporary artists who use sound as a principal media - will exhibit and sell their work. We expect works from artists such as Raphael Montañez Ortiz, Papo Colo, Adal Maldonado, Teo Freytes, Carola Cintron Moscoso, Rafael A. Vargas Bernard, co-organizer and artist Omar Obdulio Peña Forty, ... (complete list in preparation).

In addition, the event will feature educative and interactive elements such as panels and documentations as well as concert-like live performances from Raven Strain, Jorge Castro, Claudio Chea, Araceli Pino, Francisco J Torres and others...

Context:

There are only 20+ Puerto Rican (or Puerto Rico based) artists who dedicate themselves - not exclusively but continuously - to producing sound art.

Until now only a few samples of (Puerto Rican) sound art have found their way into contemporary art collections.

Audio sculptures, installations, performances and other multimedial pieces of art that include music or diverse sounds are not as easy to appreciate as paintings or traditional sculptures. But by integrating multiple disciplines they perfectly reflect the contemporaneity in contemporary art.

The first Sound Art Fair FAS 08 will showcase mainly local artists. For the FAS 09 we hope to attract also artists - and buyers - from other places in the world!

NSB @ Japan (1996)

"The Nihilist Spasm Band appear on Tamori's The World Of Music in 1996. The appearence was part of the bands first tour of Japan."

And a great clip from 1982:

Description by Mark Favro: "I shot this when I was 13 in London Ontario at THE FOREST CITY ART GALLERY when it was located above NOVACK'S on King street. The band here are Greg Curnoe, Hugh McIntyre, Murray Favro and guest John Moss. It is strange to watch these guys talking to each other. It's like it was yesterday. Hugh, Greg and even John Moss are gone now. To hear Greg talking about going down the street to the restaurant MARIO'S really brings back memories. MARIO'S is gone now too."
